DIN 985 is a self-locking hex nut. Drive is therefore with a hexagonal spanner, such as a socket spanner, ring spanner or socket spanner. Locking is obtained by means of a plastic washer on the inside of the nut. A raised model of this stainless steel self-locking hexagonal nut is also available, marked DIN 982. Both DIN 982 and DIN 985 are available in a wide range of diameters in stainless steel grades A2 and A4. Self-locking nuts are preferably not screwed very far onto a bolt because of their resistance. Excessive heating and so-called sticking can possibly be prevented by using an anti-seize paste.
