Spring washers help give bolted connections an extra locking feature so that they do not unscrew spontaneously as easily. There are six different types available in spring washers, all of which have their own way of securing. The standard spring washer DIN 127B is a curved open washer with a flat end. This same type of washer is also available especially for cylinder head screws. The outer diameters of this DIN 7980 spring washer are matched to the dimensions of cylinder head screws. The DIN 137A and DIN 137B spring washers are closed washers. DIN 137A gets its locking from its curved shape; DIN 137B from its wavy shape. In the case of DIN 6798A and DIN 6798J toothed spring washers, serrations provide the locking. They are also used in electrical contacts. DIN 6798A has an outer serration, DIN 6798J an inner serration.
