The blades in an algae scraper are particularly sharp. Specifically, the cutting edge of the blades is made of particularly thin metal. This means that the blades are easily damaged. Uneven surfaces and dirt can already cause burrs on the blade. Stubborn algae can also cause bending of the blade or burrs on the cutting edge. The result: the algae scraper scratches the aquarium glass and you don’t want that. It is therefore wise to make sure you have enough extra blades, so that you can always change the blades when you have a burr on the blade.
